How much should be budgeted for Heyda's Acoustic Consultancy Services?

To provide as much clarity as possible, we’ve estimated the costs for our primary services below. Each project is unique, but these figures offer a starting point for budgeting.

Acoustics for Planning - The Cost of Noise Impact Assessments

The price ranges provided below are indicative of the likely costs associated with conducting a noise impact assessment to support a planning application. These estimates reflect a standard scope of services. It is important to note that specific assessments, including those for planning condition sign-off reports, may have a narrower focus. Consequently, the actual fees for such assessments could fall below the “lowest price” indicated in these ranges.

Residential (ProPG)

For residential developments that require a noise impact assessment to demonstrate that significant adverse impacts will be avoided, and adverse impacts will be minimised.

Typical budget range

Plant Noise (BS 4142)

For assessments of noise impacts due to plant and other commercial/industrial noise sources including condenser units, heat pumps and much more.

Typical budget range

Office, Education & Healthcare

For new developments that require a noise impact assessment to demonstrate that significant adverse impacts will be avoided.

Typical budget range

Data Centre

To demonstrate that a new data centres will not result in significant adverse noise impacts at nearby noise-sensitive receivers (such as houses)

Typical budget range

Construction Noise and Vibration Assessment

For Section 61 “prior consent” applications or to inform construction noise and vibration management plans.

Typical budget range

N&V for Environmental Impact Assessment

Screening and scoping reports, consultation, and environmental statement chapter.

Building Acoustics - The Cost of Acoustic Design

We have estimated the cost ranges for a variety of sectors and development types, from the initial concept design at RIBA Stage 2 through to the final completion testing at RIBA Stage 6. It’s important to note that these estimates do not include planning-related costs, which are detailed in the earlier section for noise impact assessments.

Our comprehensive service scope encompasses the preparation of RIBA Stage design reports, acoustic evaluations of external building fabrics, assessments of internal separating structures, room acoustics analyses, and the evaluation of building services noise. These services include any necessary reporting requirements to comply with typical planning conditions related to the development. Our offerings typically include supportive services and site inspections throughout the construction phase, as well as commissioning testing to ensure the project meets the relevant acoustic criteria.

While individual components of these projects are available separately, the cost ranges provided here are intended to serve as a guide for the complete suite of acoustic consultancy services tailored to each specific development.

Given the vast variability in the size and overall construction costs of developments, accurately predicting costs for every potential scenario is challenging. Nevertheless, the estimates we provide represent our best effort to give a clear and comprehensive overview of potential expenses.

The Cost of Construction Noise, Vibration and Dust Monitoring

Local Authorities often require continuous monitoring of noise, vibration, and dust for the duration of specific demolition or construction projects, particularly in many areas of London. To comply with these regulations, we utilize advanced automatic remote monitoring technology from Sonitus and AVA. This technology enables real-time and historical data to be readily accessible through the Sonitos Cloud portal, ensuring comprehensive oversight of environmental conditions.

Our service is offered at a straightforward monthly rate per monitor, designed to cover all your monitoring needs comprehensively. This ensures peace of mind, knowing that your project adheres to local regulations without the hassle. Our comprehensive package includes:

  • Continuous Monitoring: Instant access to monitoring results through a cloud portal, available to all relevant parties.
  • Action Plan Development: We establish a clear plan for addressing any exceedances, ensuring proactive management of potential issues.
  • Exceedance Management: Each exceedance is thoroughly documented, with measures in place to avoid unexplained non-compliance.
  • Setup and Collection: Efficient deployment and retrieval of monitoring equipment by our team.
  • Regular Reporting: Detailed monthly reports providing a complete overview of the monitoring data, with explanations for any exceedances.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Bi-annual site visits to check and calibrate the monitoring equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

The noise and dust monitors must be provided with a continuous power supply. This is not included in our monthly costs. Options for battery and other power sources can be provided on request.

Please note, we focus on providing a full-service solution rather than offering equipment-only or self-monitoring options. Our goal is to support you with expert acoustic consultancy, guaranteeing that your project’s monitoring needs are expertly managed.

The price is quoted per monitor. For example, where you require 2 noise and 2 vibration monitors for a site, you would need 4 monitors in total.

The minimum monitoring duration is 6 months.
